Dignity

Guarding Dignity
By M. Jo Taylor

Dignity was
a tiny doll
given at birth
to a blue-eyed infant
with golden smiles
and laughing curls
who did not know
she had a doll
named Dignity

Dignity clung
porcelain grace
in shattered times
to a blue-eyed girlchild
with silver tears
and frowning fate
who could not see
her fragile doll
named Dignity

Dignity showed
with battered pride
her lovely face
to a blue-eyed lady
with steel blue strength
and loving mind
who now could guard
her precious doll
named Dignity
